Sandra (Sandy) Lee Clancy, 73, of Meadville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, May 15, 2020, following a short illness.
She was born February 3, 1947, in Meadville, a daughter of Roland Bayard and Barbara Ethel (Marhoefer) Aylsworth. She married Joseph Edward Clancy on August 16, 1969. He preceded her in death in August 2015.
Sandy was a graduate of St. Agatha High School. After high school, Sandy worked as a beautician at Mr. Anthony’s Beauty Salon for many years. She worked while earning several degrees, including a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Allegheny College, as well as a bachelor's degree in Religious and Lay Ministry from Mercyhurst College.
Sandy shared her love and faith in God on a daily basis. She began her walk with God as a Sunday School teacher for St. Agatha's religious education program through Seton Catholic School. As a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Parish, she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. Further in her journey, Sandy helped to develop the Meadville Area Catholic Youth Ministry (MACYM), in which she served as the director of religious education for St. Agatha's, St. Brigid's, St. Mary of Grace, and St. Bernadette's parishes.
Throughout her ministry career, Sandy continued her beautician work. She worked for the Crawford County Care Center in their beauty shop. She also served local funeral directors by providing hair services.
Sandy was recognized with several awards over the years. She was presented with the Award for Mission Activity for School Age Children from The Diocese of Erie Youth and Young Adult Ministry. In 2009, she was recognized as a YWCA Tribute to Women Honoree of Spirituality.
Sandy loved to be involved. Over the years, she was active in many groups. She served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader when her daughter was young. She was a cheerleading coach for Saegertown High School. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Meadville Area Scholarship Organization.
In Sandy’s free time, she enjoyed vacationing with her family, entertaining at her pool, but most of all, spending time with her two grandsons, Ryan and Jordan. She enjoyed attending their sporting events and activities. Since Joe’s passing, she has also enjoyed her cat companion, Midnight.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and Roland Bayard Aylsworth of Meadville; in-laws, Alma and Donald Clancy; brothers, Warren Charles, Roland James, and Robert Lee Aylsworth.
While her family grieves her loss, they take comfort knowing that Sandy and Joe are together again.
