Obituary

Wendell Donald (Red) Sherred, 79, of Venango, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

 

He was born April 22, 1943 in Meadville, a son of Donald Hiram and Clara Ernestine Sponholdz Sherred.  He married Doris Shafer March 21, 1972.

 

Red was a 1961 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School.  He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970.  Red was a dairy and beef farmer and had also worked for Erie Lackawanna Railroad as well as in construction.

 

He was a member of FFA and the Pennsylvania Simmental Association.  He enjoyed going to auctions, showing cows at various fairs, attending the PA Farm Show for many years, and especially attending his children's, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities.

 

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Doris, include three daughters, Hazeljean Baron (Arthur) of Saegertown, Wendy Angelo of Venango, and Michelle Kania (Brian) of Richmond Hills, GA; six grandchildren, Julie Wilkinson (Nate), Arthur Scott Baron (Brittney), Kristen Eckart (Jeremy Schlosser) Maria Biebel (Raymond), Alyssa Stidham (Justin), and Donald Russell Baron; eight great-grandchildren, Shawn and Nolan Wilkinson, Realynn, Briar, Madix, and Brenson Baron, and Kinslee and Aubree Biebel, and one expected, Angelo Travis Stidham; a brother, Terry Sherred (Marty) of Sevierville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Travis Burge.

 

Per Red’s wishes, there will be no services.

 

Memorials may be made to the Cambridge Springs Trolley Station or French Creek Valley Railroad Historical Society, both at P.O. Box 632, Meadville, PA 16335.
